One Chelsea player is reportedly viewed as an "outstanding defensive asset" internally and externally, according to a report from today.
From his loan spell with the same club
Last weekend, one of Chelsea's best players was 18-year-old centre back Josh Acheampong in their 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace, quite ironically.
Acheampong is a highly rated centre back at Chelsea who is now playing for the first team, having progressed to it after being promoted, and made his first league appearance at the weekend. He performed exceptionally well.
So why are Chelsea frantically searching for a new centre-back? Why aren't they giving Acheampong some game time? Perhaps he's not quite up to standard? Yet, this report suggests he's received extremely high praise from the footballing community worldwide.
The Athletic on Acheampong
Sports journalist Liam Twomey has issued a report on Acheampong today, and it appears that everyone within the football community is overwhelmingly praising the young defender.
He says:
‘Josh Acheampong is seen both within and outside Chelsea as a top-class defensive talent. He displays a strong and athletic build (he has a height of over 6ft, leaving room for further weight gain as he develops) and, unusually for a defender, possesses considerable technical proficiency when in possession of the ball.’
I often think what will he make of the situation if/when Chelsea bring in a new centre back, forcing him to step aside and potentially losing his place in the starting eleven, almost straight away.
