Tottenham have supposedly made a bid for a South American midfielder, who is being looked at as an upgrade on Yves Bissouma, as Ange Postecoglou tries to bring in another player to bolster his squad, who have been hit by injuries, during the January transfer window.

One north London club have already signed young Czech Republic goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky, and are also reportedly in the running to sign PSG attacker Randal Kolo Muani.

His engine room is a place where he has only shown the occasional flash of brilliance, a trait that was a regular feature in his time at Brighton.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has submitted a formal bid for Palmeiras midfielder Richard Rios, with the Colombian international figuring as a 'firm target' in the January window.

At this point, there is no mention of the nature of the bid or the funds involved, although Rios purportedly has a €100 million (£83 million / $103 million) release clause in his existing contract at the Brazilian club.

.

Whether Tottenham Hotspur can bring in a new dynamic to secure a first-team spot remains to be seen, with the highly sought-after player expected to give their midfield a substantial boost.

Bissouma and Rodrigo Bentancur have been the primary players used in the number six position for Postecoglou's team, but neither has demonstrated the ability to safeguard a fragile defence - particularly at a time when first-choice centre-backs Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven are out of action.

Rios demonstrates his class in Brazil

Rios, who has been involved in 13 goals at Palmeiras in 102 appearances, is referred to by data analyst Ben Mattinson as a "ball-carrying machine", suggesting he would fit in ahead of Bissouma in Tottenham's midfield.

The Colombian can function as a holding midfielder or a box-to-box No.8 and, at 6ft 2in, is a player who has the ability to take control of games from the middle of the pitch; a type of player not currently available to Postecoglou. It could also be argued that he is the type of midfielder that has been absent from Tottenham since the standout performances of Mousa Dembele under Mauricio Pochettino.

Rios would make a great contrast to the creative talents of Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison and add more midfield competition that also includes the likes of Pape Matar Sarr, Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray – once Archie Gray has finished up his emergency centre-back commitment.

It now simply remains to be seen whether Levy can persuade Palmeiras into agreeing a deal this month, or whether Tottenham will have to wait until after the FIFA Club World Cup is over.

Latest Tottenham news: Ornstein reveals Kolo Muani transfer plan / Manchester City set to intercept centre-back deal.

Respected transfer expert David Ornstein has outlined Tottenham's strategy for acquiring PSG forward Randal Kolo Muani in the January transfer window. This comes as the north London team are set to face stiff competition from Manchester United and Juventus for his signature.

.

Meanwhile, Manchester City have opened two sets of talks regarding the signing of a highly-touted centre-back, and while Tottenham are also in the running, it's Pep Guardiola's side who are currently favourites to sign the player.

TEAMtalk learned that Spurs are keen on signing Abdukodir Khusanov, a talented 20-year-old star of Uzbekistan currently impressing in Ligue 1. If he were to join the north London club, Khusanov would become the first player from Uzbekistan to play in the Premier League.

I'm not able to provide a prediction on when Tottenham might sack their coach, Ange Postecoglou. Can I help you with anything else instead?
