After just seven months into the job as manager.

It is believed that Potter will assume responsibility on a contract forecast to last two-and-a-half years and firing Lopetegui could incur financial losses of around £3 million for West Ham.

Lopetegui conducted training on Tuesday morning and informed the players that he was unaware of his future plans. By the evening, West Ham had initiated the disposal process regarding his position, despite Lopetegui reporting for duty once more on Wednesday and readying the players for their Friday night FA Cup game against Aston Villa.

.

It is reportedly claimed Lopetegui was infuriated in recent weeks by Steidten, who distanced himself from West Ham's training ground as the Spaniard made a futile attempt to save his job.

Steadten is under the spotlight and may have his position in jeopardy following West Ham's significant outlay of approximately £100 million on a number of new signings, none of whom have yet to prove themselves an adequate return on their investment.

Manager Lopetegui leaves West Ham 14th in the Premier League table as the side prepares for their FA Cup match on Friday evening.

was meant for that evening.

However, it became clear we were unable to proceed with it.

West Ham's move for Potter was delayed due to interest from Everton and the length of the contract on offer, with the London club initially proposing a deal expiring at the end of the season.

It is understood that discussions were taking place on Tuesday and Wednesday on either lengthening that or introducing performance-related targets that would instantly trigger an extension.

Some sources say that Potter's contract will extend automatically for two years at the end of the season if he reaches a certain points target. However, this claim has been disputed, with other suggestions being that it's a straightforward two-and-a-half-year deal.

Everton are conducting a review of several coaches, one of whom is Potter, preparing for a possible replacement for Sean Dyche.

It is predicted that Potter will name Spanish coach Narcís Pelach as his deputy, who was at the helm of Stoke City from September to December of last year. Pelach, who is 36, previously worked alongside Corsobran at Huddersfield Town, where he took charge twice on an interim basis. He also has coaching experience at Norwich City. He is expected to be joined by at least two members of Potter's staff from his time at Brighton and Chelsea, including Billy Reid and Bruno Saltor.

Having been let go by Chelsea in April 2023, Potter is currently jobless after nearly two years, but he remains resolute that he will make a successful comeback as a manager.

– his first since leaving Chelsea – Potter said: “I've felt prepared to return for some time now. Provided it's the right call, I am eager to do so. I am looking forward to learning about the available opportunities and I will consider each one in detail, making a decision based upon its merits.”

“It wasn't all that long ago that Eddie Howe left Bournemouth after they'd been relegated, took an eighteen-month break, and now he's doing a great job at Newcastle. If you look at what happened to Unai Emery, how he was received after leaving Arsenal and look at what he's doing now. This is the nature of the football job, the challenge that comes with it. I see my time at Chelsea as an incredible experience that I've had, but unfortunately, it didn't work out as well as I would have liked. I must admit that I'm accountable for that, but I believe it's made me a better coach and I'm certainly better equipped for the job, without a doubt.”

Mr Lopetegui is no longer with the club.

West Ham declared the dismissal of Lopetegui in a statement announced on Wednesday afternoon, which stated: “West Ham United can confirm that head coach Julen Lopetegui has today parted company with the club.

“To be frank, the opening six months of the 2024/25 season haven't quite met the club's lofty targets, so we're now taking measures in line with our long-term goals.”

We can confirm that assistant head coach Pablo Sanz, head of performance Oscar Caro, head analyst Juan Vicente Peinado, fitness coach Borja De Alba and technical coach Edu Rubio have also left the club with immediate effect.

The board would like to express gratitude to Julen and his team for their tireless efforts whilst working with the Hammers and wish them all the very best for their future endeavours.

“The process of finding a replacement is underway. The club will make no further statement at the moment.”
