Celebrities from Hollywood have been among the thousands of people forced to leave their homes as flames have engulfed parts of Los Angeles.

It has been reported that Tom Hanks, Ben Affleck and Reese Witherspoon were all evacuated on Tuesday as wildfires continued to spread in the Pacific Palisades suburb of Los Angeles.

There is a large fire out and about, one of four.

The area, known for its affluent residents, including both billionaires and Hollywood stars, is situated between Santa Monica and Malibu.

Other celebrities who have left their homes include the award-winning actor James Woods, who said last night he had been safely moved out of his home in Pacific Palisades.

"Unfortunately, at this moment I'm unclear if our home is still intact."

Actor Mark Hamill, widely known for his portrayal of Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars films, posted on social media last night, stating that he had evacuated his home in Malibu and his family were "fleeing for our lives".

This Is Us actress Mandy Moore had to evacuate her home as a result of the fires.

She posted on Instagram that she had left the Eaton fire, near Altadena, and that she and her children, as well as their cats and dog, had gone to stay with friends until further notice.

The actress said: "Trying to safeguard the children from the enormous despair and anxiety I feel.

Wishing everyone in our lovely city all the best. I'm devastated by the devastation and loss. Not sure if our home is still standing.

According to Velvet Ropes, which maps celebrity properties, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, Matt Damon, Steven Spielberg, Hilary Swank and Sally Field all have homes nearby where the fires are burning.

Celebrities including Dr Dre, Adam Brody and Leighton Meester, Tyra Banks, Martin Short, Anna Faris, Milo Ventimiglia, Linda Cardellini, Mary McDonnell, Adam Sandler, Miles Teller, and Jennifer Love Hewitt reportedly own homes in the affected areas.

In neighbouring Malibu, which was also affected by fires in December, stars including Beyoncé and Jay-Z, Kim Kardashian, Lady Gaga and Billie Eilish are reported as being among the celebrity residents.

The Palisades fire has so far burnt through more than 11,000 acres of land, while the Eaton one has resulted in two fatalities, Los Angeles County fire chief Anthony Marrone stated on Wednesday.

These other two fires are called Woodley and Hurst, named after the main regions impacted.

The four fires are still spreading, Mr Marrone stated.
